| Sumario: | A study was conducted to examine the extent to which public environmental benefits are provided by private agents in the agricultural sector. Data were drawn from a survey of U.S. field crop farmers. The findings indicate that determinants of private profitability are motivating factors in environmental effort decisions. Nonetheless, substantial evidence also emphasizes the importance of egoistic and altruistic motivation as a determinant of environmental effort. |
