| Summary: | A meta-analytic study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of two restorative justice interventions—victim offender mediation (VOM) and family group conferencing (FGC)—on juvenile recidivism. The results from 19 existing studies were synthesized. Findings yielded an average effect size of .26, an intervention effect that is twice that of the previously reported effect sized of .10 demonstrated in traditional justice programs. Findings supported VOM as a well-established, empirically-supported intervention for reducing juvenile recidivism and suggested that FGC is a promising, but experimental, intervention.
