Programs for women prisoners still fall into the following five major categories: institutional maintenance; education, mostly remedial; vocational training, most frequently geared toward stereotypical jobs; treatment; and medical care. Results of a nationwide survey conducted for the U.S. indicate that 94 percent of programs list the provision of at least entry-level job skills as one of their stated goals.
