Sumario:Although the receipt of food stamps is often observed to be positively linked to intake of nutrients, the writers argue that this fact could be the result of self-selection into the food stamp program by those individuals who are more interested in maintaining good nutrition. They demonstrate that, controlling for participation in the food stamp program, nutrition is negatively influenced by food stamp income in a sample of elderly people. However, they argue that the levels of nutrients do not decline sufficiently to push individual levels below the Recommended Dietary Allowance.
