Sumario:Part of a special section on markets in people, body parts, and biological and genetic matter or information. Biometrics is a term that is used to refer to digital technologies that automate the process of recognizing individual human beings. Biometrics use computer algorithms to translate images of live people into a small amount of data, sometimes referred to as a digital template, that can be compared against information stored on identification documents or against images stored in a database. Biometric identification systems are designed to safeguard existing social inequalities and are playing a key role in efforts to broaden and govern information networks that benefit global capitalism.
