      ab: Part of a special issue on the demography of aging. The writers maintain that over the past 300 years, human physiology has been undergoing extreme environmentally induced transformations made possible by various advances in technology. These changes, which they term technophysio evolution, enlarged body size by over 50 percent and greatly enhanced the health and capacity of vital organ systems. They conclude that because technophysio evolution is still ongoing, it is pertinent to predictions of longevity and morbidity and, therefore, to forecasts of the size of the elderly population and pension and health care costs.
