In an article that draws on his 2007 book, The Next Catastrophe: Reducing Our Vulnerabilities to Natural, Industrial, and Terrorist Disasters, the writer reflects on methods to prevent or mitigate the damage caused by disasters. He posits that reducing three kinds of concentrations will help in protecting the targets and minimizing the damage incurred to them: concentrations of humans in risky locations, concentrations of energy found in hazardous materials in populated areas, and concentrations of corporate power that sit astride critical infrastructure. |
