ab: Members of Generation X understand and embrace the Internet as a productivity, research, and connectivity medium. Social media is powerful and it is here to stay. So it is important for careers professionals to teach their clients about social networking web sites. To get your clients started, teach them about ego surfing. Another easy way to get started with building a web presence campaign is to encourage a client to create a Linkedln.com and/or Plaxo.com profile. Teach clients to take advantage of advanced search features, aggregators, and automated search capabilities. Gen Xers understand how to choose the right technology tool for the job at hand, and they are more likely to practice consistency and restraint in their online identity development, which is so important in career management today. Career development professionals can teach similar strategies to clients so they can use today's Web 2.0 capability to advance their careers.
