| Sumario: | The Pew Global Attitudes Project, which has tracked the image of the U.S. throughout the world over the last several years, reveals that this image in much of the Muslim world is dismal. Iraq, the war on terrorism, support for Israel, and other central aspects of U.S. foreign policy continue to create animosity in the Middle East, Asia, and elsewhere. Much of the resentment the U.S. confronts in Muslim countries is fueled by perceptions of U.S. power and concerns about how it uses its clout. Many Muslims distrust U.S. motives, fret that its considerable military strength may someday be directed at them, and fear their own traditions may be displaced by encroaching Americanization. Recent world events have intensified these fears, and opposition to U.S. foreign policy has entrenched anti-Americanism.
