There will undoubtedly be a worldwide disruption caused by Y2K, but it is impossible to determine the extent and magnitude of that disruption. Few people believe that there is now time to fix all the critical systems, and their chief worry is the interconnectedness of these systems. Another concern is that Y2K will not just cause problems on January 1, 2000, but also on a range of other dates. Global markets are also susceptible to Y2K, and the interconnectedness of military information systems could cause a serious national security threat. The fact that noncompliance in a single country can affect all other nations means that international cooperation is vitally important.
