| Sumario: | The city council in Sugar Land, Texas, is utilizing new information technologies to go from a wholly manual, paper-based agenda process, to an automated, computer-based one. The city began to design a more efficient process in 1997 with the objectives of producing a paperless agenda and eliminating the hard-copy packets, providing an electronic means of distributing agenda packets to council members and the public, and enabling the council to view the agenda and support documentation on computers during its meetings. The new process is described, and the technical challenges that the city faced in redesigning the internal procedures used by staff are discussed.
