| Sumario: | The writer is dismayed because the English (U.S.) dictionary in Microsoft Word 2000 incorporates a number of corporate names. He contends that although this is meant to make things more convenient, given that the names of large corporate entities in public life become the coin of the realm, it actually makes ordinary spell-checking more inefficient and prone to failure, especially as corporate names often include deliberate misspellings of English words. He also asserts that corporate presence in language assists in homogenizing opinion and corporate tampering with words debases the possibilities for expression. |
