Malgady's (1987) methods for comparing two dependent semipartial correlations and for comparing dependent semipartial and zero-order correlations. He contends that these tests should be used as additional techniques for examining predictor, or subscale, criterion associations in the context of predictor collinearity in an effort to broaden researchers' options and allow for greater interpretive clarity. He argues that when the proposed techniques and standard methods are used to analyze multifaceted personality scales, they can help researchers better address the multicolinearity problem by allowing the independent effects of the multifaceted subcomponents to be disentangled from the global multifaceted construct.
