| Sumario: | A study was conducted to investigate how the increased role of states in health-care reform interacts with the socioeconomic characteristics of the veteran population and with the demand for health-care provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Data were drawn from an analysis of information from the VA's Summary of Medical Programs and the Current Population Survey, March Supplement, in the years 1991–93. Findings revealed that state level health-care reform would not impact significantly upon the demand for VA health care, but that the socioeconomic characteristics of a state's veteran population provides a more statistically appropriate measure of the demand for VA health-care.
