| Sumario: | A study was conducted to examine the ways in which social class and organizational culture influence the performance of sexuality within strip clubs. Data were obtained from five visits to four exotic dancing venues in a mid-sized city in the southwestern U.S. Findings revealed that the clubs constructed sexuality to be consistent with client class norms and assumptions and with how the clubs and dancers believed that middle-class or working-class sexuality should be expressed. Class differences are represented as sexual differences in relation to the appearance of dancers and other staff, dancing and performance styles, and interactions between dancers and customers. |
