| Sumario: | A study was conducted to examine the effect of shorter standard working hours on wages. Data were drawn from the IAB Establishment Panel's research in Germany for the period 1995–1999. Findings indicated income compensation for plants with a bargaining agreement and income sharing for plants with no bargaining agreement. Findings do not support the hypothesis that wage demands are more moderate if unions function at firm level than if bargaining occurs at industry level. |
