| Sumario: | A review of Oak Park Stories, directed by Jay Ruby, a digital anthropology of Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, on four CD ROMs and a DVD. Describing his hometown of Oak Park as an internationally-regarded model of successful ethnic integration, Ruby examines how the town “maintains its ideals” as well as the effect of this experiment on the day-to-day lives of its residents. As a body of work, Ruby's study unites the personal and biographical, as well as the political and the social, by bringing together survey data, literature reviews, historical analysis, still pictures, video, and links to online resources. It is an inspiring example of innovative methodological practice in visual ethnography and an excellent resource for scholars.
