ab: Part of a special issue on systems science and enterprise integration, technological economics, and the theory of material flow. In 2006 and 2007, three important conferences provided an international forum for researchers to present their most recent findings in enterprise integration and its information technology hardware. A substantial number of the papers presented at these conferences highlighted the importance of systems science in a number of topics relevant to enterprise integration, technological economics, and the science and technology of material flows. This indicates the presence of systems science in existing disciplines, and suggests it may also affect such emerging disciplines as enterprise integration.
