Findings revealed that temporo–parietal junction, posterior cingulate, and medial prefrontal cortex—the same cortical regions used by adults when they think about other's thoughts—were recruited in children when they listened to segments of a story describing a character's thoughts compared to sections of the same story where the physical context is described. Findings demonstrated the involvement of a distinct region in the posterior superior temporal sulcus in the perception of biological motion. Change in response selectivity with age was detected in only one cortical region. Findings demonstrated that younger children equally utilized the right temporo–parietal junction for mental and physical facts.
