Sumario:A study was conducted to estimate the productivity change of Nigerian companies between 1994 and 2005. Data were obtained from the Annual Reports and Statements of Accounts of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, the Nigeria Insurance Association, the National Insurance Commission, and from the archives of several companies. Findings revealed that most of the 25 insurance companies analyzed experienced a negative productivity change during this period. Findings suggested that the Nigerian insurance sector can be improved by embracing benchmarking, market consolidation, and improved management practices. Findings are discussed in detail.
