Sumario:A study examined the interproximal wear facets (IPWF) morphology of adjacent nandibular molars. Data were obtained from 34 first and second mandibular molars of modern humans belonging to 15 individuals. Analysis was conducted using three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) outlines of IPWF using elliptic Fourier analysis (EFA) and geometric morphometrics methods (GMM). Teeth were also qualitatively associated using physical matching and by visual evaluation of the IPWF outline. Findings revealed that the quantitative form space analysis of 2D IPWF outlines generated the best results, with 82 percent of correctly associated teeth, but there were no statistically significant differences compared to the manual matching. Findings suggested that because 3 tooth pairs out of 17 could not be quantitatively associated, quantitative analysis of IPWF should be employed only in tandem with other approaches. Findings are discussed in detail.
