| Sumario: | The article presents the authors' view that parallelism is not a new idea in June 2010 and discusses the history of parallel computing. Topics include the Burroughs B5000 multiprocessor architecture that was designed in 1961, shared memory multiprocessors, the introduction of reduced instruction set computers or RISC architectures in the 1980s, the so-called determinacy theorem, and the principles of modular composability. Virtual memory systems and cache consistency are mentioned. |
