Minitel was originally conceived of as an electronic telephone directory, and the necessary terminals were given away free. The range of services available expanded, and there are now over 12,000, from stock-market pricing to teleshopping and computer games. Terminals can connect to each other and to centralized databases, and this has led to the explosive growth of messaging services. |
