      ab: A commentary on an article by D. L. Pauls et al. that appeared in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, vol. 32, 1993, pp. 1044-1050. The article concluded that some cases of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder are genetically related to Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome (TS). Pauls et al. claim that learning disorders, speech disorders, and stuttering are genetically unrelated to TS. A major drawback of their analysis is that they have strongly biased the results against finding such an association by neglecting to distinguish between relatives with TS versus relatives without TS. A response by Pauls et al. is provided.
