They consider the problems of deriving deprivation payments to general practitioners (GPs) from data pertaining to individuals. In addition, they describe two empirical studies that draw out methodological issues—one exploring the spatial aggregation issue in ranking GP practices on a selected measure of deprivation and the other investigating the sensitivity of deprivation payments to the statistical transformation and standardization in the specification of the deprivation index.
