| Sumario: | Part of a special section on demonstrative evidence. The use of photographic enhancement computer programs to alter photographs for use in court is discussed. Computer photographic imaging represents just one of the numerous changes that will require new evidentiary consideration by trial lawyers. A chain of custody for photographic evidence may become increasingly important in both civil and criminal cases, as a loosely controlled photograph or negative can easily be altered by computer enhancement. As well as the evidentiary question of enhanced photographic evidence, the ethics of using enhanced images will have to be considered.
