| Sumario: | A new Triad representational approach for representing spatiotemporal data in geographic information systems is presented. The Triad approach combines temporal-, locational-, and object-related aspects and incorporates concepts from perceptual psychology, artificial intelligence, and other areas. The objective is to bring together a range of concepts and ideas to enhance the field's representational and analytical capabilities and to provide more common ground among the various areas mentioned. The discrete but interrelated time-, location-, and object-based views brought together within the Triad approach allow for questions to be asked and addressed relative to each of those aspects. Fundamental types of temporal relationships are also defined as belonging to the temporal perspective.
