Designing a multisector model for land conversion study.

A multisector goal programming model aimed at examining the interrelations between biophysical, social, and economic factors in three major resource sectors—agriculture, forestry, and wetland—is presented and applied to the Peace River Region in British Columbia, Canada, to illustrate the applicatio...

ab: A multisector goal programming model aimed at examining the interrelations between biophysical, social, and economic factors in three major resource sectors—agriculture, forestry, and wetland—is presented and applied to the Peace River Region in British Columbia, Canada, to illustrate the application procedure of the analytical system in land conversion impact assessment. It is demonstrated that through the design of an integrated model structure, land conversion variables, and joint land constraints in goal programming, it is possible to attain an improved level of representation of complex land use systems.
