Sumario:Part of a special section on Asia's investment prospects. Already relatively developed in Taiwan, online trading now seems set to spread to the rest of Asia, but it is uncertain whether the region is ready for it. On one hand, Asian investors tend to be more speculative than their U.S. counterparts and to trade more frequently, so they are likely to readily embrace the convenience of trading online. On the other hand, transaction costs in the region are much higher than those in the U.S. and are generally fixed: Therefore, the lure of low brokerage fees is not likely to be the driving force of growth in online trading that it has been in the U.S.
