| Sumario: | Part of a special section on social science communities and the diffusion of a new technological development called Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS). The writer discusses content and discourse analysis in French sociological research. He notes that methods of analysis of textual data in France are heavily influenced by the French sociolinguistic tradition. He explains that this tradition builds on a methodology akin to a classic “theme based” content analysis—one that has not been translated into an operational software supporting its very specific requirements. The major theoretical and methodological developments that are currently having an impact on practices of computer-based analysis of textual data in France are discussed. |
