| Summary: | A study was conducted to examine the effect of couples' employment/retirement patterns on indicators of marital quality. Results indicate that the husband retired/wife employed pattern is related to perceptions of lower marital quality among traditional gender-role couples. However, traditional gender-role employed husbands with retired wives report somewhat greater marital quality than do husbands in dual-earner couples. Moreover, dual-retired spouses with recently retired wives obtain lower scores on marital happiness than do spouses in current dual-earner couples. |
