These new devices are expected to number 13.1 million by 2001, according to International Data Corp, and some operators are even developing their own in-house applications to attract potential corporate users. In Japan, Tokyo's police force is likely to be the first in the world to implement this system, but most police forces will soon start to be equipped with this kind of device, which will be linked in with police central-data systems and other emergency services.
