| Sumario: | Part of a special section on aging, biography, and practice. A study was conducted to examine the central life goals and dominant activities around which the projects of life were formed in a sample of 20 respondents, all of whom were retired. Findings revealed five types of life projects: living is achieving, living is being social, living is loving, living is family life, and living is struggling. In addition, it was found that women showed a broader participation and interpretation of life where family life, community work, and job careers were important, whereas men focused more either on a personal achievement or on a career development in a more social context. The findings are discussed in relation to class differences and compared with results from a similar study carried out in Finland.
