| Sumario: | During the week of October 23, 2000, the Senate Commerce Committee chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., was trying to make a deal with the White House to add language to a fiscal 2001 spending bill for the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education bill (HR 4577) that would compel schools and libraries to employ “technology protection measures” to impede children's access to Internet pornography. One of the chief unresolved disputes related to how to help schools and libraries pay for computer equipment and software required to comply with the proposal.
