      ab: Moving programs and data from an old PC to a new one is a task that is still stuck in the dark ages and not much help is at hand. Microsoft's new operating system, Windows XP, has a feature that allows the user to search the old computer for programs it recognizes and lets the user choose which files and settings to transfer onto the new computer. The user will be able to do this rather quickly on a home network, by hooking up both computers and enjoying speedy transfers. However, transferring the data between the two computers is not as easy as it sounds. Other alternatives include storing the information on an intermediary drive first or using a fast cable connection between the two PCs. There are software programs that move programs, data, and settings, but even these do not make the task easy.
