Summary:The article focuses on the study of a long-standing question regarding the difference in the employment of the two most common epic words for "shield" which includes aspis and sakos. It highlights the different meanings of the two given words in the Greek stories. It notes that the examination of the usage of sakos and aspis in the poetic traditions reproduces the findings related to the distinction and the connection of sakos with victory and invincibility and of aspis with exposure and defeat.
