| Sumario: | The article presents a technique for visualizing information about the latency of computer input-output equipment. It involves modeling the computer's response speed as a heat map, with time on one axis and latency data on the other. Shaded pixels can be used to indicate degrees of slowness, and highlight anomalous events. The distinctive patterns which are produced by graphing the data in this way are discussed. Several of these images are presented, involving activities such as synchronous writes to a striped pool of disks and sequential disk reads. |
