Description
Summary:The subject of our survey is the formal and functional analysis of the stone in particular in the byliny about the combat between father and son. The analysis takes also into account other two Russian folkloric genres (ritual incantations and spiritual verses, in particular the 'Dove Book') and, going out of the folkloric sphere, some passages from the Holy Scriptures in Church Slavonic. After having briefly highlighted the general significance of the stone in Russian folklore, the formal (in the bylinic subject) and functional (in all the documents) analysis of this element is dealt with. The aim of our survey is to clarify the change, which occurred in the Middle Ages, of an ancient structural picture (as shown by the final confrontation with the Rigveda) linked to the stone.
