However, the political future of independent Algeria depends not only on the willingness of some intellectuals but on natural conditions, historical traditions (pre-colonial, colonial and resistance) and the current international situation. Despite of very favorable initial circumstances, the country is still struggling with the challenges of the XXI century. 1956, en plena Guerra Fría, el psicólogo martinico Frantz Fanon, decepcionado de la civilización europea, se integra en la lucha de independencia de Argelia como su principal teórico. Tiene una visión muy clara de las metas y advierte de los obstÁculos del desarrollo poscolonial. Sin embargo, la suerte política de Argelia independiente no depende únicamente de la voluntad de algunos individuos intelectuales sino también de sus condiciones naturales, de las tradiciones históricas (precoloniales, coloniales y de resistencia) y de la vigente situación internacional.
