| Sumario: | Evaluating outcomes of social work education has long been of concern at all educational levels. There are many challenges to evaluating the effectiveness of professional education, especially if this is assessed by reviewing quality of services and outcomes provided to clients by graduates. These include gaining permission of clients and agency staff to examine case records and talk to clients and significant others and implementing research designs that may yield information about the relationships between education and services graduates provide. The article suggests characteristics of quality professional education. That is, faculty must possess related knowledge and skills and act on related values. To the extent to which professional educators do not inform students about the results of research studies illustrating the equal or greater effectiveness of non-professionals in attaining many outcomes, the ineffectiveness or harm of social work interventions in some circumstances, and effective programs that contribute to helping clients, a need for professionals who cannot fulfill required practices and policies advocated in guidelines and code of ethics is felt.
