Sumario:A condensed reprint of the article "Redesigning the Basics" by Kay Mills, which appeared in the May 2010 issue of "National CrossTalk," is presented. The article discusses the changes implemented by the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) to developmental math and reading programs at the state's community colleges with the use of grant money from the U.S National Center for Academic Transformation (NCAT). Benefits of technology in remedial education for teachers and students are also discussed.
