| Sumario: | In the last few years, some publicly distributed books and newspaper articles have not been careful enough in their accounts of the religious beliefs, customs, and habits of national minorities. Some newspapers, for instance, claimed that the Islamic religion "makes a fetish of the pig," and by doing so hurt the feelings of many ordinary believers and caused incidents. In some newspapers, epithets such as "pig-banning peoples" have appeared from time to time, creating feelings of aversion among some. Furthermore, a number of newspapers and publications have printed inappropriate descriptions of, and comments on, the customs and habits of national minorities and sullied their image. This does nothing to help implement the Party's policies on religion and [minority] nationalities. It should arouse a high degree of vigilance and attention on the part of newspapers, magazines, and publishing departments.
