Sumario:	This article is a critical appraisal of the publishing activities during the Second World War of the renowned publisher A.A.M. Stols. The research presented shows that subsequent statements made by Stols regarding this period cannot all be taken at face value. Despite the commercially fruitful activities that he developed during the occupation of the Netherlands, after the war Stols failed to maintain the position of eminence that he had achieved before it.
