      ab: This paper examines some of the common ideas associated with memory and attempts to expose their flaws by presenting a newer and more scientific view of memory. Rather than viewing memories as "images" or "impressions" in a person's brain, the paper suggests a much more fluid model that explains memories as a sort of habits of the brain created by repeated stimuli. Drawing from the ideas of the neuroscientists Gerald Edelman and Israel Rosenfield, the author shows that this model of memory as a continuously changing flow of familiar brainstates is much more in line with neuroscience than one would initially think, given most people's commonsense notion of memory.
