Summary:The article presents a discussion of computer security for online social networks, focusing on examples from the Diaspora project. Diaspora was designed to be an alternative to online social networks such as Facebook, offering greater user privacy and data security. It uses open source code and the Ruby on Rails web framework. An analysis of various security flaws which were identified during the developer preview release is presented. These involve topics such as authentication, authorization, mass assignment, and NoSQL databases.
