      ab: The article presents the results of a study which investigated the vulnerabilities and security patches of 17 open source and closed source software packages. It found that vendor policy was more significant for security than the difference between open and closed source. The Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems are among the software packages discussed. It is argued that economic incentives for software producers to provide patches and avoid vulnerabilities are an important factor in computer security.
