| Sumario: | This case study highlights the difficulty in healing peristomal pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), an ulcerative skin disorder often associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)1It can occur in any age group, no single effective treatment is available and healing time can be lengthy. Its uncommonness has resulted in treatment being based on case studies and small series of patient data collected over many years. The cause is unknown but may include an exaggerated response to infection and altered immune responses. "In most cases of peristomal PG, the patient's stoma has been created as a result of IBD. In this case a 63-year-old man with Crohn's disease (CD) was advised by his gastroenterologist that he may need further surgery to resite his ileostomy to allow healing of peristomal PG ulcers. |
