      ab: This paper reviews the existing 'Headgear System' used by paediatric surgeons during surgery. With advancing technological developments at an unprecedented rate and increasing scientific, governmental and public demand for lower cost medical devices, the usability of such devices on routine clinical applications is of primary importance. However, the currently available surgeons' headgear system appears to be less suited for a routine clinical use. Considering various pros and cons of the available systems and taking into account the views of some surgeons currently using one such system, Birmingham City University in collaboration with Birmingham Children's Hospital have developed a novel and easy to use headgear system. While the developed system is being clinically investigated and evaluated, this paper describes the various advantages and disadvantages of the commercially available headgear systems.
