| Sumario: | The research objective of this paper is to analyze the speeches and messages expressed by Buddhist leaders from various countries on the occasion of the United Nations Day of Vesak 2009. The focus of this study is on similarities in content and linguistic features shared by the texts, particularly as the culturally mutual perception manifested through the Buddhist discourse on the international event commemorating Buddha's tripartite life sequences. The discussion shows the role of English as a global language serving as an international bridge connecting people of different nationalities, especially those whose native languages are not English, a situation in which the English language is not stable but adopts certain indigenous features into use. Moreover, the paper also discusses the interplay of a common religious adoption (i.e. Buddhism) and diversity in linguistic backgrounds, a situation where common religious practices are followed to show a sense of community.
