Summary:The article discusses research on the effects of digital technology usage on human behavior. Researchers including Clifford Nass, Sherry Turkle, and Michael Suman discuss digital immersion, online social networking, and companionship, looking at how Internet friendship can disrupt face-to-face interaction, cause a breakdown of social etiquette, and diminish human contact. Yair Amichai-Hamburger of the Research Center for Internet Psychology argues that technology can lead to a lower quality of life, while the sociologist Irena Stepanikova found that technology use can lead to depression and loneliness.
